AWARD RECOGNIZED
Nelson Electric is a charter member of As-
sociated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of
Iowa, having joined as one of the original 76
members in 1974. ABC of Iowa is a non-
profit construction trade association dedi-
cated to providing training, apprenticeship
education, and safety services to member
organizations while promoting and protect-
ing the free enterprise system and merit shop
philosophy.
ABC of Iowa hosts an annual Excellence
in Construction Awards Banquet, which
honors the state’s most innovative and high
quality construction projects and safety pro-
grams. In the last ten years Nelson Electric
has earned twelve Excellence in Construc-
tion Awards. At the 2014 Banquet held in
Altoona, Iowa, Nelson Electric received an
Award of Distinction for their work on the
Frederiksen Court Expansion Project on the
Iowa State University campus.
Nelson Electric won the award in the ‘Elec-
trical – Commercial & Industrial Over $2
Million’ category. The project consisted of
six new wood-framed 30-unit apartment-
style residence halls on the campus. Nelson
Electric installed the electrical system, low
voltage systems, and site utilities – including
fiber optic, medium-voltage power distribu-
tion systems and copper-cable phone system
