Charles Dickens once wrote that Father Time is not always a hard parent, that
his hand is often only lightly applied among those who have used him well,
leaving both their hearts and spirits as young and vigorous. He noted that a gray
head is simply the indelible impression of time’s blessing “and every wrinkle
but a notch in the quiet calendar of a well-spent life.” For residents of a very
special retirement community in Virginia, the recognition of time’s blessing
and realization of a well-spent life comes with a consecrated commitment to
continuing care.
