More than a century ago, a congregation of devotees affiliated with the
Presbyterian Church in Washington D.C. looked among their commu-
nity and were concerned that so few resources were afforded for senior
church members who lacked sufficient means of support. Motivated by
their compassion, they established a mission of service and in 1906, cre-
ated a foundation and Board of Trustees tasked with spurring support
for this vital cause. Efforts ultimately culminated with the creation of a
not-for-profit variety of continuing care retirement communities. Over
time, being complemented by additions of Independent Living, Assisted
Living, Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitative programs, these communities
were recognized as effectively rivaling any offering in the for-profit sector.
Those communities continue today branded under a family of operations
known as Westminster Ingleside. Beside the scenic Washington D.C. sub-
urb of Occoquan in Northern Virginia, Westminster at Lake Ridge is a
modern model of the traditions, heritage and initiative that helped pro-
duce a continuing care retirement community like none other in America.
