nvest Saint Lucia is the first point of
contact for international investors seek-
ing information about setting up busi-
ness in Saint Lucia, an island nation of nearly
200,000 people in the Eastern Caribbean
Sea. The organization is charged with stimu-
lating, facilitating and promoting develop-
ment of business and investment activities
in selected sectors of the economy and offers
knowledge of the processes to set up and ex-
pand business.
It was launched two years ago as a follow-
up to the National Development Corpora-
tion, which was established some 40 years
ago when the government felt like it needed
to have land and fiscal assets to leverage for
investment purposes. These days, the agency
has been focusing more and more on becom-
ing an investment promotion agency, facili-
tating investments and really taking a very
targeted and focused approach on select sec-
tors.
“This has really beenour focus from2012,
when we were re-launched and re-branded
as Invest Saint Lucia,” says Dainea Augier-
Stevens, a communications officer with the
organization. “That has been our focus.”
Business World reached out to Augier-
Stevens to discuss Saint Lucia’s existing busi-
ness climate, efforts being made to attract
new investment and the organization’s five-
year goals.
