industry that’s booming. We have film that’s
happening. So we’ve seen some new non-tra-
ditional sectors come up over the years and
we’re seeing the expanse that it has.
We have a lot of young entrepreneurs in
ICT, for instance, in music, in the editing
of and sending of music videos, and even in
terms of developing apps, we’re seeing a lot
of that. So, we’re encouraging investment in
those areas that actually cause that transfor-
mation and build that knowledge economy
that we aspire to be.
BW:
As far as attracting the businesses, what
is the process? Are you going out and trying
to make contacts with viable entities? Are
they reaching out to you? Or is it a combina-
tion of both?
HYACINTH-WELLS:
We’re doing both.
Where we sit at Invest Saint Lucia, we get
a lot of inquiries. Saint Lucia seems to be a
hub, where a lot of persons are interested
in us. But at the same time, we are actually
doing very careful investor targeting, where
we are actually going out there and present-

business world and persons of interest that
information about Saint Lucia and the op-
portunities to do business here. Very specific
projects. We work on project profiles, we
have very clear propositions as to what we
would like to see and the type of investors.

investment environment is saying to us and
we then look and see what do we have that
would fit with that project and then we pro-
vide that proposition to the investor.
We have an upcoming investor forum in
May of this year, where we’re very focused on
that and that is our main investment activity
for the first part of this year, where we’re fo-
cusing on just trying to target and make sure
that we actually get investors to come in and
see and learn about Saint Lucia and what
Saint Lucia has to offer. With infrastructure,
we’re looking at hard infrastructure in terms
of the road network, the telecom, the elec-
tricity, whether it be renewable energy. We’re
looking at the water sector, we’re looking at
physical bridges and networking and creat-
ing new communities where there has not
been much activity and building road net-
works actually develops communities that
were alternate routes. We’re also looking at
the airports and seaports as well, in terms of
looking at new opportunities in those areas,
looking at a new harbor, or re-development
of the harbor and expansion of trade in the
south end of the island. We’re looking at a
