know Saint Lucia’s rums, we have award-win-
ning rums – the Chairman’s Reserve, the Toz
and the Rodney. These are all award-winning
rums and these are all manufactured here.
BW:
Is there was a fair bit of competition be-
tween islands trying to attract foreign invest-
ments?
HYACINTH-WELLS:
There would be
competition, but I don’t think it’s fierce to
the point where we are actually competing
deadly with each other. Saint Lucia’s offering
would be a little different in that our econ-
omy has grown at a different pace than the
other islands. At the stage of our develop-
ment where we are now, while we compete,
we compete at a different level because we
are competing for quality investment that is
going to take us to the next level, the next
point of our development. Some of the other
islands are still learning what we've already
done. So it’s not on par when it comes to
all levels of competition, but there is a sig-
nificant amount of competition, especially
when it comes to the tourism sector.
Being an island, you all have water, you
all have the sea, but there’s the offering at the
end of the day in terms of what is the value
