As part of that mission, they host annual
Professional Excellence in Building Awards
– which they created to reflect the highest
standards of building and construction man-
agement of projects in Australia.
At the 2014 AIB Awards, Lend Lease’s
professional excellence on the Tonsley Sus-
tainable Industries EducationCentre did not
go overlooked. First, the company won the
AIB South Australia award for Commercial
Construction $100 million and over. Later,
at the National Awards, Matt Gooding went
on to receive a High Commendation Award
for his work on the project.
“We value that hugely,” Matt says of the
recognition. “Internally, it’s very highly re-
garded and sought after.”
He credits the acclaim to SIEC’s “incred-
ible uniqueness.” He says that they could
build for another 100 years without having
something else like it come up again.
For example, the building itself was designed
as a learning tool, so the inner workings were
not hidden. There were no concealed bulk-
heads, no locked up plant rooms, and no
