The Sustainable Industries Education
Centre – valued at roughly $119 million –
is one of the main education and research
developments located within Tonsley. It
provides nearly 45,000 square metres of
world-class, energy efficient, trade training
infrastructure.
According toMatt, the centre is the “most
innovative and advanced” inAustralia, bring-
ing together “all the building, construction,
and renewable energy trades under one roof
so students can learn and work together as
they will be required to do in the industry.”
From 2014, more than 6,500 SIEC stu-
dents will be training in sustainable build-
ing and construction occupations each year.
The state-of-the-art campus opened in Janu-
ary, with courses in electrical and renewable
energy, refrigeration and air-conditioning,
plumbing and water operations, carpentry
and joinery, furnishing, building and civil
construction, interior design and drafting,
painting and decoration, brick layering, plas-
tering, and tiling.
