August-September 2014
have the baby boomers who are heading
into retirement. Retirement age has
historically been the high levels – people
buy RVs and go retire in them. There's no
reason to think that's going to change, but at
the same time, we're seeing younger people
buying themtoo.
BUSINESS WORLD:
Is the second
highest demographic the young, 30-ish
families?
BROOM:
Actually, the biggest group of
RV owners is 34-55. So, not the 55-plus.It's
not just, ma, pa and grandma anymore.
Roughly 40 percent of RV owners have
childrenunder the age of 18 living at home.
BUS INESS WORLD:
I s t ha t a
misconception that people have a lot that
aren't plugged into the industry?
BROOM:
It's a common misperception, I
would say, that RV-ing is primarily for
retirement activities, but it isn't – it's
increasing being owned by younger people,
who want to be active. They want to get out
there and do things, but they alsowant to be
comfortable.
