these days ranges between 390 and 400, according to Kevin Broom, the RVIA's
media relations director for the last eight years. It also provides materials to
consumers and others about RV travel and camping, and actively works to
educate the public about the benefits of RVing.
The RVIA maintains as inspection program to monitor compliance of plumbing,
heating, fire and life safety, along with the electrical systems of member-
manufactured RVs in conformance to ANSI/NFPA 1192 standards.
“The big thing really is just the economy,” Broom said.“The kind of government
affairs issues are just technical issues – they're important to our industry, but
they're not the kind of thing where we need to say we're working on, not some
major environmental act or something that's going to fundamentally change the
way we do business. The better the economy is, the more RVs that sell, because
it's typically a fairly large, discretionary purchase that people borrow money to
purchase.”
Business World chatted with Broom to discuss the association's membership
numbers, the resurgence in sales since the Great Recession and how things might
look five years down the road.
