is backed-up and more. “Our piece of the pie
isn’t going to get any bigger, so we’re looking
to see howwe can, at least, eat more of it. The
technology helps us to do that.” Red also says
as capable as his paramedic staff is, the peo-
ple that serve in his accounting department
are equally “tenacious” in making sure insur-
ance claims and medicare/Medicaid billing
is accurate. “They’re detail-oriented to a de-
gree you might even consider a gift, and I’m
unsure whether it is something that can be
taught,” says Red.
Whether its office administration or re-
sponding to emergencies, Red says, “We try
to be excellent in everything we do. We’re
constantly monitoring how fast we arrive on
site, how accurately we’re treating injuries,
and how effectively we’re doing our job. In
this competitive world, you have to know the
rules and you have to do it right. You don’t
get to do this for 48 years without knowing
exactly what the rules are, and if you don’t do
it right, you’re not going to last very long.”
CALLED TO DUTY
As a family-run business, Red and his wife
Anne, envision a day when their own chil-
dren will grow and perhaps decide to take
over leadership of the company, much the
way he and his wife did. At the same time, for
the paramedics and office staff with children,
he hopes they too will want to follow in their
parents’ career paths. “We want to extend
the opportunity for others. We understand
clearly how important it is to do the best we
can while it is under our management, and
we do our best in little examples every day.”
That “best” is also reflected in very large ex-
