the name “Masterpiece” for his retirement
constructions. This prompted several years
of legal actions that ultimately compelled
deliberation among seven judges compris-
ing Canada’s Supreme Court. Garforth-Bles
won the case as he had been operating by
the name long before the homebuilder filed,
but he has a laugh recalling, “One judge
stood-up and said, ‘No matter how we may
decide this case, the result is going to be
a masterpiece.’”
BLES-SED DETERMINATION
Garforth-Bles has more than 20 years of ex-
perience working in North America’s sup-
portive housing, assisted-living and long-
term care industry. He previously worked
with Holiday Retirement Corp. and Central
Park Lodges.
He also worked for a time with Canada’s
leading family of developers known as the
Reichmanns. He spent considerable time
purchasing product for that organization,
and says he enjoyed the family values and
noted a particular fondness for seniors. Yet,
