Tech-a-bees are abuzz that with this coming January will also come increasing opportunities to
acquire Microsoft’s line of Surface tablets. Having debuted this past October with the RT model,
these devices have only been available for purchase online or through the limited number of
Microsoft stores. Traditional retailers are now set to carry the line which has expanded to include
the “Surface Pro” ($899 for 64GB or $999 for 128GB). With its
three-millimeter-thick cover that doubles as a keyboard, 10.6 inch
display, full Intel CPU and accompanying apps, some have referred to
the Surface tablet as an “Ipad killer.” The device is thinner, has a larger
screen and something that no other contraption can currently
claim – the Windows 8 operating system.
Honeywell International Inc. will reportedly acquire Washington-based Intermec,
Inc., a company specializing in data capture and information management
solutions. Under the terms of the agreement, which has been approved by both
companies' Boards of Directors, Honeywell will acquire all of the outstanding
common shares of Intermec for $10.00 per share in cash, approximately $600
million. The transaction remains subject to the approval of Intermec stockholders
and regulatory review, but principals anticipate closing before the end of the
second quarter 2013.
