The Prairie Wood Design
Awards, for example, recog-
nize projects and organizations
that advance the use of wood
in construction through design
excellence, advocacy, and inno-
vation. For Montreal House, _SA
and the rest of team were spe-
cifically recognized for the proj-
ect’s CLT roof panelling. They
used 3D modeling software to
generate the exact geometric
forms they needed, and the
building team was able to use
a crane to seamlessly drop the
panels in within the span of a
single day.
“When we were done, the result
was absolutely stunning,” Kevin
says. “We created this really co-
hesive architectural moment,
where nothing was superflu-
ous, where everything was es-
sential to the sum of its parts.
We were really proud of how it
came together.”
The clients were proud too,
Kevin adds – and he says they
should be, because they were
as integral to the finished prod-
uct as anyone.
“Without them, we couldn’t
have a project like this,” he ex-
plains. “Without their willing-
ness to embrace the journey
that we all went on together, it
wouldn’t have been possible.”
“They were extremely involved,”
he adds. “They became fasci-
nated with the process, and
they went on the learning jour-
ney and figured out with us and
how all these elements would
come together. They are ex-
tremely happy with the end-re-
sult, and they deserve a lot of
credit for it. It’s a result of the
journey we all went on.”
