non-profit, volunteer organization whose
mission is to enhance the appearance of the
city through cleanup events, beautification
projects, and educational activities. Through
their efforts, area schools are becoming more
green-friendly. In addition to hosting various
workshops at schools, the organization rates
results achieved by each school and honors
best practices during an annual recognition
ceremony.
Another city-sponsored organization is
known as the Sustainability Resource Cen-
ter, and their mission is to be a catalyst for
sustainability change in the city and sur-
rounding regions.That organizationprovides
quality research and qualified information
in response to community requests, designs
and conducts educational workshops, en-
hances educational partnerships between in-
stitutions and the community, and performs
on a self-sustaining basis.
According to Mayor Joines, the city of Win-
ston-Salem will continue to support orga-
nizations like those in order to promote a
greener future.
