T
heGreat Recessionmeant doomand gloomfor a lot
of small public companies, but those that survived
managed to get through the fiscal storms thanks to
sound adherence to the core mission and an ability to make
prudent bottom-line decisions. The nation's top companies
with sales of less than $1 billion were highlighted as part of
Forbes magazine's 35th annual list of America's best small
companies. The rankings were determined based on equity,
sales growth and earnings growth over the last 12 months, and
the last five years. Also part of the criteria was stock
performance from the last year, measured against each
company's peer group.
