and they are achieving greater wellness that
what they had prior to moving into these
communities.
As Phillippe says, “Many families don’t
understand how becoming isolated or lonely
affects a senior’s health. Many think that is
better that their loved-ones are better off in
their own home, but if they’re not having
enough intellectual stimulation, emotional
and social interaction, it can be very detri-
mental to their health.”
He says home nursing services, which en-
able someone to have contact a few hours a
week, can be helpful, but it still doesn’t of-
fer the beneficial enrichment of wellness that
comes from daily activities and daily contact
with friends or neighbors. Phillippe says he
has seen many cases where new residents at
Christian Homes have better health than
what they were previously experiencing. He
can offer numerous examples, but perhaps
none more meaningful than that involving
his own mother. He says after she moved
into one of the communities, she not only
became healthier, but also happier, factors
he largely attributes to the range of activities,
programs and social engagement so unique
