Not to mention, Pollard said, her spot on
the island itself is second to none, too.
The resort is on the south coast of the
166-square-mile island, about 15 minutes
away from the capital city of Bridgetown and
away frommany competing resorts clustered
along the western coast. The flatter south-
ern side, she said, is home to a consistently
refreshing breeze off the Caribbean Sea and
she readily encourages guests to leave the re-
sort to explore nearby activities.
“As much as we have a lovely restaurant on
property and we have live entertainment on
some nights, we do acknowledge and realize
that people need to experience Barbados as
a whole,” she said, “so they need to get out
of the resort and interact with Barbados, and
not just be enclosed. There are a lot of things
within walking distance, a lot of pedestrian
movement and it’s safe to move around.”
Southern Palms is Green Globe-certified
and a heavy emphasis is placed, Pollard said,
on maintaining the facility’s environmen-
tally conscious efforts and continuously cul-
tivating a relationship with the surrounding
community. The resort is involved in myriad
fundraisers with local schools and churches,
and plays a significant role in charitable ef-
