span along the beach. I dare say one of the
best beaches in the island. Some parts of the
coastline have lost footing, but we still have a
fairly deep beach.There’s a half-mile of beach
(in the area), and we have 1,000 feet of it in
front of our property.”
The operation is much more a year-round
endeavor than a generation ago, Pollard said,
when there was a typically distinct busy sea-
son and offseason cycle. Nearly 70 percent of
the visitors these days arrive from the United
Kingdom, leading to an ideal average occu-
pancy across 12 months.
The remainder of the traffic is a mixture
of visitors from Canada, the United States
and elsewhere, and Pollard said recent mo-
mentum has been generated in the Midwest-
ern region of the U.S., whose residents tend
to find the less-overwhelming nature of the
resort more in tune with their tastes.
“Someone suggested tome a few years ago
that the layout of this particular property
would probably lend itself more specifically
to the people from the Midwest,” she said,
“They appreciate the quainter European lay-
out rather than a big 1,500-room property.
“It’s a small property with a lot of charac-
ter to it.”
