ket dynamics can change, as do the tools with
which one works and product line popular-
ity, but good values are not something alter-
able. McCurley credits much of his compa-
ny’s success with hiring of good people – “I
look for people with good morals and val-
ues... who are capable of making good deci-
sions, and look for talent more than experi-
ence.”
As to what defines “good values,” Mc-
Curley refers to the importance of faith and
family, but also the significance in having a
sense of purposefulness that isn’t driven by
self-serving interests. He also concedes that
all people are capable of making mistakes.
“What’s more important is the ability to
learn from a mistake, to set a course and
make decisions to stay on that course, and
reset direction if you discover you’re getting
off course,” says McCurley. “I look for people
who when faced with a decision, will make
a good decision, and that is a win for every-
one.”
For an operation of his size, McCurley
says there is a surprisingly little emphasis on
reprimanding or disciplinary actions because
