Spiezio III is undaunted and undeterred.
Spiezio, a veteran real estate developer and
commercial property manager whose influ-
ence has even frequented into New York’s
political landscape, has acquired something
of a philosophical perspective about compe-
tition as well as efforts to erode his footing,
not necessarily intoned in “so what” or fuh-
getaboutit-type terms – he simply doesn’t al-
low such things to undermine his resolve. So,
when one of his companies secured a multi-
million dollar contract to provide waste
services to a municipality resulting in a law-
suit from the company who formerly held
that contract for many years unchallenged,
Spiezio nonchalantly likens it to sour grapes.
He goes on to acknowledge that waste ser-
vices on the east coast have long been domi-
nated by forces who formerly figured in or-
ganized crime. Does that prompt particular
concern for Spiezio? No - but he says if cer-
tain operators worked more like a profes-
sional, customer-centric business as opposed
to bullies that raise rates without warning
