The
Need
for
Speed
Prepare for a ginormous leap in 4G speed and net-
work evolution as SK Telecom has launched the
world’s first LTE-Advanced network, a system that
enables data transfer rates of 150Mbps nearly twice
as fast than present 4G LTE speeds available in the
United States, or anywhere else. Alas, the technol-
ogy currently only benefits mobile devices in SK
Telecom’s operational base of South Korea where
Samsung is preparing to release the Galaxy S4
LTE-A which will be the first commercial product
embracing the new network capability. The speed
derives from a system of carrier aggregation that
basically bundles separate frequency bands to ex-
pand bandwidth. SK Telecom anticipates tweaking
of this system will prompt a revolution in network
platforms which may accommodate data trans-
fer speeds as high as 500Mbps in the very coming
soon. Meanwhile, Samsung has announced that it
is prepared to distribute the advanced S4 Galaxy
in markets where-ever/when-ever the network
services can accommodate. That may be the com-
ing soon too as AT&T, Sprint and Verizon have all
announced their own respective plans for LTE ad-
vancement.
