Looking back at how the GTA has evolved
over the years, Smith says that in addition to
the architectural trends changing , the mar-
ket for high-end custom homes has expand-
ed and diversified.
“Toronto and its surroundings have really hit
its stride,” he said. “The clientele in Toronto
is a lot wealthier than it has ever been be-
fore, even adjusted for inflation. When 2008
came around and the markets collapsed, here
we were a boutique firm doing nothing but
high-end residential. We thought ‘oh boy.’”
Though the firm’s fears were more than nat-
ural, Altius Architecture didn’t skip a beat,
and Smith attributes this to their diverse cli-
ent base.
