Gathering All Geeks
Geeknet, Inc., the parent company of online re-
tailer ThinkGeek.com, has announced leadership
changes with the appointing of Eric Semler (found-
er and president of TCS Capital Management) to
Geeknet’s Board of Directors. Additionally, CEO
Kathryn McCarthy has been appointed Chairman
of the Board, replacing Ken Langone who will re-
main as a director with the company.
In addition to pledging her commitment to de-
livering “the best products to geeks everywhere,”
McCarthy expressed enthusiasm for Semler’s ap-
pointment saying, ““He is one of our largest in-
vestors and his deep experience in new media and
ecommerce will serve as a great asset to the com-
pany and the Board.”
Semler founded TCS Capital Management in
2001 and is responsible for managing investments
in a range of technology, entertainment, media and
communications companies. Prior to founding
TCS, he was a managing director responsible for
making investments in media and telecommunica-
tions companies, and also worked as an investment
banker following his graduation fromHarvard Law
School and Harvard Business School with a joint

for the New York Times and The Moscow News,
and his publishing credits include the co-authoring
of two books.
Through ThinkGeek, Geeknet has emerged as
premier retailer catering to the global geek commu-
nity with a range of innovative, tech-infused toys,
gadgetry and other geeky goods. The company’s to-
tal revenue for the second quarter of 2013 was $22
million, an increase of 24 percent from the $17.8
million earned in the second quarter of 2012 – in-
dication that ThinkGeek is increasingly appealing
to geeks gawking at its unique product offerings.
