with about 12 apartments centered around

home,” Szumski said.
As part of its neighborhood concept,
Bon Secours Place employs a cross-trained
caregiver to oversee each neighborhood.
These special caregivers handle the laundry,
serve the meals, and do light housekeeping
in addition to provide personal care services.
They also welcome new residents and orga-
nize specific neighborhood events.
“We only need to have two housekeep-
ers for the whole building, and it’s really
quite wonderful because the place is spot-
less,” Szumski said. “Our caregivers take a lot
of pride and ownership of their neighbor-
hoods.”
Bon Secours Place employs approximate-
ly 72 staff members. The best indicator of
its exceptional workplace culture is the 18%
turnover rate, which is far below industry
standards.
“About 80 percent of our people have
been here more than a year, and at least 50
percent have been here even longer. We have
some people who have been here since Day
1,” said Szumski.
