The use of technology for communication
is important industry-wide, and FirstLight
takes exceptional advantage. They have a cli-
ent-first portal that enables relatives to view
their loved one’s schedule, care plan, care
notes and feedback on the Internet 24/7 “no
matter where they are in the world,” Bevis
says.
FirstLight uses technology to other
advantages as well. “It has also increased the
focus on marketing, especially over the web.
Our technology platform enables our own-
ers to operate at a much lower cost structure
to be much more productive.”
The top challenge facing FirstLight
at the moment is building awareness of the
brand. Most people don’t know the non-
medical industry exists, Bevis says. “We all
kind of think of homecare as being with
nurses in the home. Most people don’t think
of non-medical care as a viable option,” he
says. “Our challenge is getting the word out
about who FirstLight is and helping increase
awareness of our entire industry.”
The other big industry challenge is re-
taining good quality caregivers. FirstLight’s
