"We've been working over the last two years
on a new future growth map outlining the
areas the city is looking to grow towards
eventually, which is north, south and west,"
Brad explains. "It also outlines future popu-
lation projections and policies for council to
look at − everything from economic devel-
opment to recreational development."
"This type of planning was a great exercise
for the city to go through because we've basi-
cally outlined the growth areas and the in-
frastructure needed to support those growth
areas for a period of twenty to 25 years," he
continues. "We used some pretty ambitious
growth rates in that plan − 4, 6 and 8 per
cent − so low, medium and high respectively.
And even though we're planning for 30,000
people in thirty years, whether we hit that
number in ten years or 30 years, it doesn't re-
ally change the plan − it just changes when
we would make that investment in the in-
frastructure needed to support that popula-
tion."
