Letter from the Editor
With great thanks and gratitude, we’re pleased to present the November issue of Business World Magazine, which comes as families
throughout the U.S. prepare for Thanksgiving, yet actually follows observances in Canada where such celebration actually predates any of
that affiliated with America and its early pilgrims. The occasion compels recall of comments attributed to Henry Van Dyke, that gratitude is
an inward feeling of kindness received, yet thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving, he said, is what results
from that impulse. Of course, when it comes to kindness received or willing expressions of thankfulness, gratitude may be best when it is more
premeditated than impulsive. Throughout this month’s content, you’ll find a number of cases where business leaders have gone above and
beyond the call of duty, complementing their core capabilities with a conscious of gratitude for their employees as well as their customers,
and in such a way as to establish a higher level of employee engagement, customer retention and consistency in quality which may be more
responsible for their success in industry than anything else. They’re not only great at their business, but grateful for the business they receive,
and the expression of that has resulted in the creation of programs, services and initiatives benefitting their employees, or professionals in
their industry and those living among the communities in which they operate. You’ll see such example in the story involving Overly Manu-
facturing; a company who imparted just as much care in creating a door for a nearby high school as it did when creating the roofing system
for The White House. Or consider the case of Ohio’s Fredon Corporation who not only supplies parts for a range of industries, but has also
advanced educational programs and career opportunities for high school students throughout its community. In the story involving a na-
tionally leading healthcare laundry operation in Portland, despite having some of the industry’s most sophisticated innovations in engineer-
ing and technology, the COO doesn’t hesitate to express gratitude for that recognized as the company’s greatest asset – the employees, and to
be sure, they are met with appreciation beyond that of drawing a salary. The same is true at one of the world’s most esteemed institutions of
the hospitality industry, Sandy Lane, a resort situated on a beautiful Barbados beach and acclaimed for its offerings in accommodations,
fine dining, golf, and spa services, but the GMwill share what guests are most grateful for, what makes them want to return – the kindness
received from staff. In this issue, we’ve also launched a new series of stories focusing on golf (with more to come) but once more, the gratitude
for this sport has driven the development of an industry which has not only generated an economic impact that surpasses the motion picture
industry and sports industry (combined), but has also generated more philanthropic support to charity than any other sport – something
else for which we can be grateful this holiday.
Of course, we are especially grateful for the advertisers and industry professionals supporting our mission to share this content. Our stories
help show that good business is about so much more than generating a profit from the manufacturing of a product or through the providing
of a service. Business offers a means of transforming lives through the advancing of skills, the creation of innovations, the development of
job opportunities and honing of character which empowers one to not only serve a market of customers, but our communities and our great
nation too, indeed, may good business be counted among our blessings this month.
On behalf of the very thankful team here at Business World Magazine, we wish your respective families and your staffs, a very Happy
Thanksgiving.
