Letter from the Editor
As 2012 draws to a close, we recognize this is a celebratory time that has some focused on fulfilling children’s wish-lists or intently
pondering the enactment of particular resolutions for the New Year. The English Poet Edith Pierce once suggested this season
affords something similar to opening a book with blank pages that allow the writing of words we each are respectively tasked to
author. She said the book is called opportunity and its first chapter is New Years Day.
With that in mind, we are pleased to present the year-end issue of Business World, which opens, not with blank pages, but genu-
ine insight on business opportunities in the coming year and news of companies who are not only experiencing success today, but
also making significant beneficial impact in their industry as well as with the clients or communities they serve. As the leading
online resource for business news and information that covers every corridor of industry, our resolution is to continue provid-
ing coverage of what works, in terms of the businesses, operational practices and potential investments that can offer a path to
prosperity.
In fact, this editorial focus has directly attributed to our success in building readership and critical advertising relationships.
Through this past year, unfortunately, so much of the business news from other sources has focused on what doesn’t work. Between
banking scandals, patent infringement lawsuits, failed IPOs and bankruptcy maneuvers involving some of the most iconic in-
stitutions of enterprise, traditional media too often paints the dimmest picture of America’s business future. Combine that with
foreboding of fiscal cliffs and Mayan-themed ideas of Armageddon, little wonder why some misguidedly see the news as all bad.
The fact remains, there is plenty of good news in business. Our content reflects examples from companies whose achievements
are measured well beyond terms of profitability; each demonstrates exemplary commitment to improvement, devotion to service
and utter dedication to their clients and personnel. They have important stories to impart and news that often goes unreported,
and therefore, our hope is that you’ll appreciate this coverage just as much as we appreciate the opportunity to provide it.
There will most certainly be a tomorrow and it will empower all, just as it always has, by providing new opportunities, new
services, new technologies, new understanding and perhaps even, renewed resolve to be the best we can be. Our work continues,
and as your work does too, on behalf of the team at Business World Magazine, we extend hope that New Year’s Day will find
you happy, healthy and hopeful as you open the book on future opportunities.
Sincerely,
Bill Schiller
