as well as highly personal challenges that in-
clude enduring through a time when his son
became afflicted by a rare form of cancer that
not only posed grave illness, but also neces-
sitated numerous doctor visits, clinical trials
and medical treatments involving surgery,
radiation and chemotherapy. Out of respect
for the care his son and family received by
one of the nurses, the Spiezio family contrib-
uted a significant monetary gift to launch
a program designed to help other families,
designed by this special nurse at the Hasbro
Children’s Hospital. Joseph was additionally
cared for (and cured) under the direction of
a personal friend who is considered family at
Memorial Sloan Ketterring Center, Dr. Jatin
P. Shah, who Spiezio credits with providing
the family with hope, inspiration and friend-
ship. “We are blessed in many ways thanks to
our prayers personally and professionally,” he
says.
Spiezio also regards his customers and
colleagues in a family-way as well, stressing
the importance of respect, accountability
and commitment to making good on assur-
ances. He expresses appreciation to not only
serve families through the growth of his
waste services enterprise, but also the abil-
ity to support families through the jobs he
is helping to create. “It takes a lot of work to
start with nothing and become something,”
says Spiezio. “We have a foundation here to
grow on, which demands high work ethic
and high standards and there’s a lot of people
that depend on us to do the right thing... but
all of that gives us the energy to get up each
morning and go to work.”
