THREE men have been charged with looting after they allegedly tried to steal boats that had been flushed down the Brisbane River by floodwaters on Wednesday.
About 4pm, police patrolling the area allegedly spotted a man using his vehicle to drag a pontoon to the river bank to retrieve a dinghy.
The 67-year-old Roselea man has been issued with a Notice to Appear for stealing by looting.
About an hour later, police allegedly caught two men aged 19 and 20 trying to steal a 10 foot dinghy from the Brisbane River near Marina St.
The two men, both from Wynnum, were also issued with a Notice to Appear for stealing by looting.
All three men will appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court next month.
Police warn that any person located stealing property displaced by the flood situation in the greater Brisbane region will be arrested and prosecuted.
If any member of the community witnesses any looting they are asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24 hours a day.
