The township of Dalby in southwest Queensland has survived its third flood peak in two weeks, but this time homes have been spared from the torrent.

The Myall Creek peaked at just a minor flood of 2.4 metres at 9am (AEST) on Friday, inundating the evacuated caravan park.

But it’s not all bad news, Western Downs Mayor Ray Brown told AAP.

“Homes have been spared,” he said.

It’s the third flood to have hit the town in the last fortnight, the worst was on December 27 when the Myall Creek split the town and inundated 100 homes.

This time round, silt and debris flowed again into the town and locals again are cleaning up.

It’s continuing to rain in Dalby and the downpours are putting back efforts to get the town’s water infrastructure back online.

Currently, only one water filtering plant is working, meaning only three of the town’s 14 bores are being accessed.

Water is being trucked in regularly, taking the town to 70 per cent capacity.

But Mr Brown said he wanted to get to work on fixing water infrastructure.

“Every day we get rain it’s very hard for us to get in and service those treatment plants,” he said.

“Until that water drops, we can’t operate.”

The highest water restriction, level six, has been imposed for the town’s 14,000 residents.
