TWO houses were destroyed last night and 100 more were under threat from an uncontrolled bushfire in the Lake Clifton area, 100km south of Perth.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority said there was a serious threat to lives and homes and issued a bushfire emergency warning for people in the Armstrong Hills and Tuart Grove subdivisions of Lake Clifton.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive,” the warning said.

The fire was last night moving in a northwesterly direction, around the edge of the Harvey estuary and towards the Herron subdivision. “That’s why the Herron subdivision has now been put on an emergency warning,” Mr Gale said.

“People are being advised there to go to a safer place or actively defend.”

About 120 firefighters were on the ground battling the blaze, assisted by four helicopters and four fixed-wing water bombers.

The WA police arson squad was on the scene and seeking witnesses who may have seen a green car whose driver was seen acting suspiciously in the area before the fire started.
