Worst Franchise Lists
Franchises in the United States employ 8.5
million people and create more than $840
million in economic impact – about 3.5
percent of the gross domestic product –
according toHISGlobal Insight.
Forbes magazine and a cohort, FRANData,
compiled a list of the best andworst franchise
opportunities in America from a list of more
than 3,000 candidates. Criteria included
growth rate, continuity rate, historical
performance transparency, support for
franchisees and recurring revenue self-
sufficiency.
The full list, which broke the lists down by
the size of initial investment required,
appeared in the June 16 issue of Forbes.
Leading the way among franchises with
initial investments of $150,000 or less were
medical and non-medical home care
provider BrightStar (No. 1), senior and
disabled adult in-home care provider Right at
Home (No. 2) and rug, upholstery and tile
cleaner Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning (No. 3).
Taking those premier spots in the $150,000
to $500,000 investment category were
clothing, shoes and accessories marketplace
Plato’s Closet (No. 1), sports-themed hair
salon Sport Clips (No. 2) and sandwich
