Letter from the Editor
Dear Reader,
Welcome to Business World Magazine – if this is your first experience with a Business World publication, we
hope it’s the first of many.
This month we have turned our attention to the world’s prominent and growing franchise industry, spotlight-
ing established and emerging leaders in industries as varied as home fitness, junk hauling, window cleaning,
and more.
For an overview of the relatively new industry – the franchise model has only really been around for 50
years – we spoke with the International Franchise Association, the world’s largest organisation representing
franchising worldwide. For an on-the-ground perspective, we talked to a plethora of companies including J.D.
Byrider, America’s leading used car sales and finance company, and Jan-Pro Cleaning Systems, a rapidly ex-
panding, globally recognized commercial cleaning company.
This issue also begins our foray into the aluminum industry, where we had a conversation with Aluminum
Association CEO Heidi Brock. She told us all about the sustainable advantages of aluminum – over 75 per
cent of all aluminum produced is still in use today – and the industry’s efforts to bring manufacturing back
to the United States.
We also caught up with Kip Smith, CEO of industry titan Noranda Aluminum – a company involved in
all aspects of the industry from technology, mining, refining, smelting, to fabricating and recycling. Noranda
recently celebrated their 5th year anniversary as in independent company. Smith talked to us about his plan
for the 95.
Those stories, and many more, can be found in the coming pages. Enjoy, and see you next month.
All the best,
The Editorial Team
