ptown Cheapskate is a teen and
young adult fashion exchange –
a place where people can buy and
sell new and like-new name brand clothing
and accessories for guys and girls at extraor-
dinarily low prices. With over 85 stores in
the U.S. and Europe, Uptown has carefully
studied the young adult market segment,
identified its needs, and has the tools, know-
how and resources to meet the needs of their
customers and help their franchise owners
achieve success.
The minds behind Uptown Cheap-
skate belong to siblings Scott and Chelsea
Sloan, who come from a family of franchi-
sors. Their father, Brent Sloan is the CEO
of BaseCamp Franchising, Uptown’s parent
company. Brent and his wife Shauna found-
ed the other half of BaseCamp in 1992 – a
children’s resale franchise called Kid to Kid
that has achieved tremendous success in over
20
states, as well as abroad.
Scott and Chelsea brought the resale
concept to fashion-conscious teenagers and
young adults with Uptown Cheapskate.
They opened their first store roughly three
and a half years ago in Salt Lake City, after
