A teenager has been charged with attempted murder, over a stabbing at a house in Shepparton last week.

63-year-old Bill Hickford was stabbed several times when he confronted an armed intruder in his Kialla Lakes home last Friday morning.

Mr Hickford came out of an induced coma yesterday but remains in a serious condition in the Alfred Hospital.

Detective Senior Constable Leigh Howse says police searched a house in Kialla yesterday and a 17-year-old boy was arrested.

“One male was arrested and brought back here to the Shepparton Police station where he was interviewed in relation to the aggravated burglary at Pedder Court that occurred on the 17th of December,” he said.

“That male has been charged with one count of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated burglary. He’s currently in custody.”

Constable Howse says the victim’s wife is relieved someone has been charged.

“I’d have to say she was very relieved, she was very happy with the developments and I think it was just an overwhelming sense of relief for her that someone’s in custody,” he said.
