Flood waters have peaked at Dalby, but authorities are worried another peak could be on the way following more heavy rain.

Western Downs Mayor Ray Brown said the waters peaked as darkness fell on Monday night at 3.74 metres.

“We had 200 houses and 2000 allotments inundated, the houses had water above the floor level, and there are 750 houses still without power,” he told AAP on Monday night.

“Of the 2000 allotments about 80 per cent were houses that had some form of inundation, whether that was gardens, sheds or carports, and we have about 165 people in our evacuation centre at the moment.

“We have considerable concern with Chinchilla tonight (Monday night), with massive rising creeks there following big storms just before dark, and we’ve also asked for voluntary evacuation from Condamine.”

Mr Brown said it was entirely up to individuals whether or not they leave their homes again, but police have advised all residents they should voluntarily evacuate.

“It’s up to them if they proceed with it, but they’ve all been notified and the SES has been brought back into the town of Condamine this (Monday) evening following significant rainfall events and there’s been rain again in the past hour.”
