LA PAZ, BOLIVIA

Bus drivers have gone on strike across Bolivia to protest a sudden sharp jump in gasoline and diesel prices. Most stores have managed to open, but workers are finding it had to reach jobs.

The strike that started Monday is in protest of a 73 percent jump in gasoline prices announced Sunday. Diesel also costs is 83 percent more. Prices had been frozen for six years and the government says it can no longer afford to subsidize them.

It’s the most unpopular measure yet announced by the government of leftist leader Evo Morales.
