a direct flight. Also split in equal portions –
half and half, in this case – is the occupancy
on the adult side of the resort, which is called
“Harmony”; and the family side, which is
labeled “Splash” and is home to the largest
water park and kids club on the island. A
fourth-floor “Junior Suite” on the Harmony
side is advertised on the resort’s website for
$232 per person/per night, while a two-bed-
room set of adjoining rooms on the Splash
side goes for $309 per person/per night.
“It’s almost right down the middle,”
Hawken says. “We have as many weddings
and honeymooners as we have families.
We’re just about 50/50.”
In addition to serving the two guest pop-
ulations, sustainability and community in-
volvement endeavors also occupy primary
places on the resort’s day-to-day and long-
term agendas.
Two full-size greenhouses were recently
installed that will enable Coconut Bay to
grow some of its own produce and maintain
consistency in supply as a measure to supple-
ment supplies from local farmers. The ho-
tel currently purchases a range of livestock/
fish meat products, vegetable, fruit and root
crops from approximately 60 farmers, which
results in substantial revenue for these local
