also endeavours to give back to the commu-
nities they work in. One of the programs
they run in all of their stores is a ‘say no to
plastic bags’ program. When a customer
checks out, they are asked if they’d like to
take a bag or choose to make a donation to
a charity of their choice, and each store has
different token boxes to represent a different
charity. “It’s a way for us to keep plastic bags
out of the landfill, and well as provide some
help to some great philanthropic organiza-
tions around the nation.”

There’s not many business models that can
grow if not thrive in a down economy. Up-
town Cheapskate is one of them. Since 2009,
Uptown has achieved tremendous success at
