There are five important traits that Nurse
Next Door looks for in every franchisee.
Firstly, they have to be “a culture fit”, some-
one who is aligned with their core values of
caring. Second, they look for people with a
sales aptitude. Third, they want people who
possess leadership skills. “Somebody with te-
nacity,” DeHart says, is the fourth thing they
look for. The final and most important trait
is passion. “If you don’t have a passion for
caring, you don’t belong in the business.”
When they become a franchisee, new
owners go through an initial eight-week
training program, as well as six days of on-
site training. The process does not end there,
however. Franchisees are then paired with
a coach who will provide ongoing support
and assistance. “Honestly, you cannot learn
this business in a week,” DeHart says. “We
really gear our training for when that person
leaves.”
Their American franchisees schedule
a 20-minute phone call with their coaches
every day for the first three months of their
business. Their training process then evolves
to a once-a-week support call from the coach
and an on-site visit for a day or two every
four months. “We are in a 24/7 business, so
it helps to be able to support them 24/7,” he
says.
Being in a 24-hour day, seven-day week
